UCLA Goes The Distance To Beat Stanford, 69-65

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Reeves Nelson scored 18 points as the UCLA Bruins recorded a 69-65 win over the Stanford Cardinal in a Pac-10 Conference bout at Maples Pavilion. Also scoring in double figures for the Bruins (19-7, 10-3) were Tyler Honeycutt and Joshua Smith with 16 and 13 points, respectively, as the squad won its sixth in a row and the 10th in the last 11 outings. The Cardinal (13-12, 6-8) was paced by Jeremy Green who tallied a game-high 27 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-8 behind the three-point line in the team's second straight setback. Anthony Brown posted 15 points and Josh Owens added 12 points.

UCLA scored the first points of the night and never looked back, the visitors shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 6-of-11 behind the three-point line in the first half, en route to a 36-29 advantage as the break. In the second half both squads shot just over 42 percent from the floor, but Stanford closed the gap with 7-of-13 shooting out on the perimeter before falling in the four-point decision. The Bruins outscored Stanford by a 16-8 margin at the free-throw line and also connected on 9-of-17 shots behind the three-point line in order to overcome 17 turnovers.

UCLA Heads North To Battle Stanford Looking For Sixth Straight Win

The UCLA Bruins look to extend their winning streak to six games as they travel to northern California to face the Stanford Cardinal at Maples Pavilion. UCLA is currently in second place in the Pac-10 Conference, at 9-3, one game behind Arizona for the conference lead. The Bruins are on the precipice of the top 25, having cracked the top 30 in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today coaches polls. A nice weekend in the Bay Area could propel UCLA into the top 25 for the first time this season.

UCLA has beaten Stanford in eight of their last 10 meetings, including a 68-57 victory at Pauley Pavilion on January 22. Malcom Lee has been on a scoring tear of late, averaging 17.6 points per contest in the last seven games, a streak which began with a 23-point effort against the Cardinal. Lee averages 13.8 points per game, and has overtaken Reeves Nelson (13.7 points per game) for the team scoring lead. Lee is averaging 15.2 points per game in Pac-10 play, and is one of five Bruins scoring in double figures this season.

Guard Jeremy Green leads Stanford in scoring at 15.7 points per game this season. Josh Owens is the only other Cardinal player averaging double figures in scoring, at 11.4 points per game, and leads the team with 6.8 boards per game this season. Stanford is 10-3 at home this season. UCLA is 3-3 on the road this season.
