UCLA Vs. ASU: Bruins Upset Sun Devils 29-28, Move Into First Place In Pac-12 South

Kevin Prince threw for 196 yards and ran for 61 more, leading the UCLA Bruins to a comeback 29-28 win over the Arizona St. Sun Devils Saturday night at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins, who have won two straight games for the first time all season, are suddenly in control of their own destiny and in first place in the Pac-12 South Division.

Sun Devils kicker Alex Garoutte missed a 46-yard potential game-winning field goal as time expired, his third miss of the night.

Running back Derrick Coleman ran for 119 yards on 17 carries for the Bruins (5-4, 4-2), including the deciding touchdown from one yard out with 49 seconds left in the game. Coleman had a 41-yard run earlier on the drive that put the Bruins in the red zone.

Running back Cameron Marshall and quarterback Brock Osweiler were instrumental in a 10-play, 93-yard drive that gave the Sun Devils (6-3, 4-2) the lead with 7:48 remaining in the game. Marshall ran for 39 of his career-high 168 yards on the drive, and Osweiler threw for 53 yards on the drive and capped it off with a quarterback sneak from one yard out.

UCLA struck first on the second play of the half. Wide receiver Nelson Rosario found himself 15 yards behind the secondary and Kevin Prince found him for a 76-yard touchdown to widen the Bruins' lead to 23-14.

The Bruins were hurt in the third quarter by a pair of holding penalties. One wiped out a 41-yard run by Johnathan Franklin, then on the next series a nearly 60-yard run by Prince was erased by a holding call on Rosario.

UCLA looked like they would get hurt again by Franklin with a fumble with 12:52 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was the first turnover of the game, and it came at the ASU 25-yard line, but the Bruins defense was able to hold Osweiler and the Sun Devils to a three-and-out.

The Bruins fumbled again on the kickoff after ASU took the lead, but kicker Alex Garoutte missed a 36-yard field goal that would have given the Sun Devils an eight-point lead.

The Sun Devils lead the Pac-12 with a +14 turnover margin this season.

The Bruins travel to Salt Lake City next Saturday to battle the Utah Utes (5-4, 2-4).
