Pac 12 Championship Game 2011 Projections: UCLA Needs Win Over USC To Win South Division

UCLA needs a win over USC or a loss by Utah to clinch the Pac-12 South Division.

With one week remaining in the 2011 college football regular season, there are five teams still in play for two spots in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game, to be played Friday night, December 2 on Fox. The UCLA Bruins are in the lead in the South Division, but still have their work cut out for them.

What we know is that the Pac-12 title game will be played in either Eugene or Palo Alto. If the Oregon Ducks (9-2, 7-1) beat the Oregon State Beavers in The Civil War on Saturday, they will win the North Division and host the Pac-12 Championship Game. Should the Ducks lose, the Stanford Cardinal (10-1, 8-1) would win the division and play host on December 2.

In the South Division, it is more complicated:

  • UCLA (6-5, 5-3) needs either a win over the USC Trojans OR a loss by Utah.
  • The Arizona State Sun Devils (6-5, 4-4) need a win over Cal AND a loss by UCLA AND a win by Utah.
  • The Utah Utes (7-4, 4-4) need a win over Colorado AND losses by both UCLA and Arizona State.

USC (9-2, 6-2) is ineligible for postseason play this season. The Bruins play the late game next Saturday, a 7 p.m. start at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. On Friday, Utah hosts Colorado at 12:30 p.m PST, and Arizona State hosts Cal at 5:15 p.m. PST.

The inaugural Pac-12 Championship Football Game will be played on Friday, December 2 at 5 p.m. PT on Fox. For more UCLA football news and information, be sure to read Bruins Nation.
