UCLA At No. 1 Oregon: First Half By The Terrible, Terrible Numbers

The UCLA Bruins trail the Oregon Ducks 32-3 at halftime at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, and yes the score indicates the chasm between the two teams. Here is a look at the numbers for the first half, which was dominated by top-ranked Oregon:

  • Since beating Associated Press No. 1 Ohio State in the 1976 Rose Bowl, UCLA is 0-6 against AP No. 1 teams, and has been outscored by an average of 46-14 in those games. Tonight seems to fit that pattern.
  • Oregon was a 27-point favorite in the game, and have covered the spread by halftime
  • Oregon has gained 357 yards of offense in the first half, compared to 136 for UCLA
  • Oregon has 23 first downs, compared to nine for the Bruins
  • Ducks' quarterback Darron Thomas is 16-for-20 for 220 passing yards in the first half, with two toiuchdowns
  • UCLA backup quarterback Richard Brehaut, who started tonight with Kevin Prince out, has completed six of eight passes, but for only 47 yards, and has one interception
  • LaMichael James, the leading rusher in the Pac-10, has 77 yards on 11 carries, a clean seven yards per carry.
  • Oregon leads in average yards per offensive play, 9.2 yards to 3.8 yards for the Bruins.
  • Oregon is 0-for-3 on third-down conversions, but has completed both attempts on fourth down
  • In case UCLA was thinking of a comeback, keep in mind that Oregon has allowed 13 points in the second half all season, including none in the fourth quarter.

Oregon will receive the ball to begin the third quarter.
