Loyola Marymount vs. Northern Arizona recap: Lions pull out overtime victory

Loyala Marymount lost an 18-point second-half lead but the Lions were still able to come away with a victory.

Despite blowing an 18-point second-half lead, Loyala Marymount was able to come away with a 92-86 victory against Northern Arizona on Wednesday.

The Lions led for much of the first half and used a late run to take a 49-38 lead into halftime. The second half began the same way the first half ended as Loyala Marymount extended its lead to as many as 18 points. While the Lions appeared on their way to an easy victory, Northern Arizona came storming back. Northern Arizona used an 18-5 run to cut the lead to just five points.

Loyala Marymount led by seven with less than five minutes to play, but once again Northern Arizona made a run. The the Lumberjacks used a 9-0 run to take a lead for the first time in the second half. Northern Arizona led, 80-77, with 49 seconds to play. After leading the majority of the game, the Lions needed a three-pointer by Anthony Ireland just to tie the game and force overtime. In overtime, Loyala once again built a lead but this time they were able to maintain it.

Ireland scored 28 points to lead the Lions while Ashley Hamilton scored 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
