Kobe Bryant Injury: Right foot injury forces Bryant out of two Friday practices

A right foot ailment forced Kobe Bryant to miss both of the Lakers Friday practices, even though the injury is not thought to be serious.

Bryant sat out the morning practice session and even though he was initially expected to return for the evening practice, he ended up sitting that out as well. Despite missing two practices, the injury is not considered to be serious and Bryant is listed as day-to-day.

Lakers coach Mike Brown didn't seem too focused on the injury, instead saying he leaves the medical decisions up to Lakers trainer Gary Vitti.

"My take on it is this: Gary has a job to do, he's our head trainer and I just follow his lead," Brown said, according to ESPN Los Angeles. "He knows a lot more than me when it comes to that stuff, so really, I'm OK not knowing what's going on. Just, 'Can a guy go or not?' If you can go, great. If he can't go, great."

While the injury doesn't appear to be of much concern now, it could draw more attention if it continues to cause Bryant to miss practice. Injuries have been a bit of an issue early on for Los Angeles as the Lakers already lost Steve Blake to a foot injury. Los Angeles is also working Dwight Howard back in as he continues to recover from a back injury.

Steve Blake injury: Guard explains how it happened

The world of sports is littered with players that find new and bizarre ways to injure themselves, and now Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Blake is another name to add to the list.

Blake stepped on a spike strip on Sept. 24 and punctured his foot, requiring him to miss the first three weeks of practice. Despite involving a parking lot spike strip, there was nothing grandiose about how it happened, the L.A. Times reported.

Somebody called his name and Blake looked up. At that instant, Blake stepped on a spike strip that left a puncture in his left foot, an incident he described as an "unfortunate situation."

Blake made an impact last year during the Lakers' playoff run, but he will not be able to practice and that leaves the door wide open for guards Chris Duhon and Darius Morris. They can make an impact on coach Mike Brown in the race to be chief backup to Steve Nash.

Blake was seen at media day on Monday in the team's facility wearing full uniform and shoes. But due to the finicky nature of foot injuries, Blake is limited to spot drills and cannot do anything that causes friction on his foot -- basically anything involves playing basketball.
