Rashard Lewis Rumors: Lakers Could Target Veteran Forward

The Los Angeles Lakers seem to be committed to retaining their core if the latest comments from Jim Buss are any indicator. There appeared to be a distinct possibility that Los Angeles would try and deal either one of their big men in Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.

So that means the Lakers will probably have to look toward veterans. There are probably some players who'd love to suit up for the Lakers or at least try and join Kobe Bryant in the pursuit of another championship. One possibility is the recently-traded Rashard Lewis, who could soon be bought out by his new team, the New Orleans Hornets.

Lewis could potentially be signed for the veteran's minimum. It's unclear if he could be signed for the mid-level exception.

At only 32 years old, Lewis still should have some productive years left. Lewis could give Los Angeles some decent perimeter shooting (something they have missed in forever), particularly at the wing position. Lewis could be a solid backup for Metta World Peace and could give Los Angeles more versatility with their lineup. Lewis could play a stretch four with Bynum and Gasol and give Los Angeles a different look other than playing two bigs, which could make them far more dangerous offensively over time.
