'Key Lakers,' Magic Johnson want Phil Jackson to return as Lakers coach

The ex-Lakers coach has quickly become a prime target in the Lakers new head coach search following the firing of Mike Brown on Friday.

The Los Angeles Lakers head coach rumor mill is starting fast after the Lakers fired Mike Brown following the team's 1-4 start on Friday.

CBS Sports reported that the Laker's short list for coaching replacement is a veritable who's who of veteran, out of work coaches. The first replacement to come to the tip of many a tongue with sway within the organization is ex-Lakers head coach Phil Jackson.

But he isn't the only one. In fact, Magic Johnson tweeted he would also love to see Brian Shaw on the sidelines and wished Pat Riley is available. Shaw is currently an associate coach for the Indiana Pacers and Pat Riley is team president of the Miami Heat.

Other coaches believed to be in consideration are former Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni, former Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and former Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillian.

According to Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, the Lakers will look harder at coaches who are not currently employed.

Jackson coached the Lakers until the 2010-2011 season after winning five championships with the Lakers to add to the six he had won with the Jordan-era Chicago Bulls.
