D'Antoni, Dunleavy, McMillan among Lakers backup plans

The Los Angeles Lakers are in talks with former head coach Phil Jackson for the 11-time NBA champion to make his return to the sidelines, but they aren't putting all their eggs in that basket.

Mike D'Antoni, Mike Dunleavy, and Nate McMillan are names that would be looked at should the Lakers fail to sign Jackson, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Each of those coaches can't come close to Jackson's resume, but they all have experience coaching winning teams.

D'Antoni made a name for himself running an uptempo offense with current Lakers point guard Steve Nash in Phoenix.

Dunleavy has previous experience as the Lakers' coach, taking the team to the NBA Finals in 1991. McMillan amassed a 478-452 record with the Seattle Sonics and Portland Trailblazers.

The Lakers fired Mike Brown on Friday following a 1-4 start. Big things are expected from Los Angeles, as the team has the highest payroll in the league and added Dwight Howard over the summer.
