NBA Free Agency 2011: Los Angeles Lakers To Sign Troy Murphy, Per Reports

Stay connected for news and updates

The Los Angeles Lakers have added a new player to their roster, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN and Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Their sources have indicated that forward Troy Murphy has signed to the team on a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum salary of $1,352,181.

As McMenamin points out, the Lakers had used up their mid-level exceptions with their earlier signing of Josh McRoberts, so the veteran's minimum was really all they had left to offer Murphy.

Murphy is a 10-year NBA veteran who was a bench player for the New Jersey Nets and Boston Celtics in 2010-2011. In 17 games with Boston, he averaged 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. The Lakers are hoping that Murphy and McRoberts will add versatility and depth to their roster following the deal that sent Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks.
