The Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night have had a theme against the Phoenix Coyotes: read, and react. After two periods in Game 5 of the NHL Western Conference Finals, the Kings and Coyotes are tied 3-3 at Jobing.com in Glendale, Arizona.
Drew Doughty scored the game-tying goal for the Kings, and Mike Richards scored the go-ahead goal for Los Angeles. But Keith Yandle answered with his first goal of the postseason at 16:23 of the second period.
In each of the first two periods, Phoenix has scored first. Marc-Antoine Pouliot lit the lamp at 6:23 of the second period. But Doughty was able to score in traffic at 11:06 of the second period with this shot to tie the game at 2-2.
It was the second goal of the postseason for Doughty, who assisted on Anze Kopitar's goal in the first period. Richards scored at 13:43 of the second period, his fourth goal of the playoffs.
The Kings were outshot 9-6 in the first period, but were the aggressors in the second period with an overwhelming 20-10 shot advantage. The three goals allowed by Jonathan Quick match his most given up this postseason, tying Game 4 of the first round series against Vancouver.
