The Los Angeles Dodgers placed super utility man Jerry Hairston Jr. on the disabled list on Monday with left hip inflammation. Hairston aggravated the injury on Saturday, when he left the game in Miami with tightness in his left hip.
The Dodgers recalled Elian Herrera from Triple A Albuquerque to take Hairston's place on the roster.
Hairston has hit .273/.342/.387 in 80 games this season, and he has started games at third base, second base, and left field this season. Hairston has also played four innings at shortstop and one inning at first base this year. This is his second time on the disabled list this season, as he also missed time in May with a left hamstring strain.
Herrera hit .243/.326/.331 in 51 games for the Dodgers this season, and the 27-year old started games at third base, second base, left field, center field, and right field. In addition, Herrera played three innings at shortstop.
