The Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday made official their acquisition for Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies, in a day filled with moves at the MLB trade deadline. The Dodgers also designated pitcher Michael Antonini for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
"We’re excited to add an All-Star caliber player with postseason experience," said general manager Ned Colletti in a statement. "He plays the game with passion, gives us a top of the order bat from both sides of the plate, can steal bases and is solid defensively in the outfield."
The Dodgers also added relief pitcher Brandon League from the Seattle Mariners late Monday night. League will take Lindblom's spot in the bullpen, and on the active roster and 40-man roster. Designating Antonini for assignment creates room on the 40-man roster for Victorino, but another move will still need to be made to make room for Victorino on the active roster.
Antonini was added to the 40-man roster last November, and he was called up twice earlier this season. However, despite accumulating four days of service time in his two brief big league stints, Antonini never pitched for the Dodgers.
If Antonini clears waivers, the Dodgers can outright him back to Triple A Albuquerque.
