Dodgers Vs. Mariners Final Score: Kevin Millwood, 5 Relievers Combine For No-Hitter In 1-0 Win

Kevin Millwood and five relief pitchers combined to pitch a no-hitter for the Seattle Mariners Friday night, in a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Safeco Field in the first game of a three-game weekend series. It was the first no-hitter thrown against the Dodgers since Kent Mercker threw one on April 8, 1994 at Dodger Stadium for the Atlanta Braves.

Millwood was fantastic through six innings, needing just 68 pitches to face the minimum 18 batters. Millwood struck out six and allowed only one walk, and erased the walk on a double play. Millwood left the game with a mild right groin strain after throwing just one warmup pitch in the top of the seventh.

Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League, and Tom Wilhelmsen combined for the final nine outs to complete the third no-hitter in Mariners' history. Pryor was pitching in just his fourth major league game, and he walked two of the three hitters he faced. Yet he got the win, his first in the major leagues.

The Mariners scored the only run of the game with a single, walk, and single all with two outs in the seventh inning off Scott Elbert (0-1). Kyle Seager delivered what proved to be the game-winning RBI with a single off the glove of shortstop Dee Gordon.

Nathan Eovaldi threw six scoreless innings for the Dodgers, but had nothing to show for it. Eovaldi has allowed five total runs in his three starts, but the Dodgers have suffered three one-run losses in those games.

Clayton Kershaw gets the start on Saturday for the Dodgers, facing Jason Vargas.
