Andre Ethier Contract: Extension Announcement To Come On Tuesday

As reported on Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers and two-time All-Star outfielder Andre Ethier have agreed in principle to a five-year, $85 million extension until at least 2017, with a possibility of adding 2018 if his option is picked up.

Right now, all the news surrounding the contract is all based on what sources have told the various reporters who reported the extension on Monday. It looks like it's for good reason - nobody is officially talking, according to ESPN Los Angeles' Tony Jackson.

"I have been instructed that I won't comment ... until [Tuesday]," Ethier said after the Dodgers lost to the Angels on Monday night. "There will be an announcement [on Tuesday]. We will talk [Tuesday], I promise."

The inevitable announcement is the latest in a string of signings by the Dodgers to lock up their young nucleus for the foreseeable future. Last winter was Matt Kemp with an eight-year, $160 million deal and fifteen months ago it was Chad Billingsley with a three-year, $35 million deal.

All we do is wait now for the official Ethier announcement so he can join that growing list of future Dodgers' cornerstones. Thankfully, today is Tuesday.
