Tony Gwynn Jr. delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies Saturday night at Dodger Stadium. It was the third straight win for the Dodgers, who are 14-3 at home this season.
It was the second game-winning pinch-hit for Gwynn, who delivered the go-ahead three-run triple in the fourth inning of Wednesday night's win over the San Francisco Giants.
"Aaron was really good tonight. I thought his stuff was better. He really only made that one pitch," manager Don Mattingly said after the game. "I thought about taking him out there but he said he felt great. He's one of those guys who's honest. If he's out of gas he'll tell you."
Andre Ethier led off the fifth inning with a double to the right center field gap, and was driven home one out later by a bloop single by Juan Uribe for the Dodgers' first run. James Loney scored on Gwynn's pinch hit after reaching base with an infield hit to third.
Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save of the year.
