The Los Angeles Dodgers announced the acquisition of longtime St. Louis Cardinals utility player Skip Schumaker on Wednesday. General Manager Ned Colletti announced the trade that sent minor league infielder Jake Lemmerman to St. Louis was official in a press release.

Schumaker, 32, is an eight-year MLB veteran who spent all of those years with the Cardinals. He has played in the infield or in the outfield, and last season primarily played second base. He also saw time at all three outfield position based on necessity. With St. Louis last year, Schumaker batted .276 with a home run and 28 RBI. The lefty also had a .339 on base percentage.

Originally from Torrance, Calif., Schumaker attended Aliso Niguel High School and played at UC-Santa Barbara.

Lemmerman, 23, played with Double-A Chattanooga last season and batted .233 with seven home runs and 46 RBI. The former Duke Blue Devil was taken by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2010 amateur draft.
