Dodgers reportedly interested in Kevin Youkilis

Dennis Wierzbicki-US PRESSWIRE

Even though they have a number of infield options already on the roster, the Dodgers are reportedly interested in third baseman Kevin Youkilis.

When the Dodgers acquired Hanley Ramirez at the trading deadline, it appeared they had third base filled for several years. Despite Ramirez and several other infielders already being on the roster, Los Angeles is interested in free agent third baseman Kevin Youkilis, according to a report from Fox Sports.

The 33-year-old Youkilis is coming off the worst season of his career. He hit a career-low .235 over 122 games in 2012. Youkilis began the season with Boston, but was traded to the Chicago White Sox in June. He finished the season with 60 RBI, his lowest total since breaking into the major leagues on a full-time basis.

The report from Ken Rosenthal said the Dodgers could be interested in Youkilis if Ramirez plays shortstop instead of third base and Luis Cruz shifts into a utility role. The Dodgers could also send Dee Gordon down to Triple-A to make room. In addition to the Dodgers, the White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs are other teams reportedly interested in Youkilis.
