Zack Greinke is reportedly Dodgers' top target

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

The Los Angeles Dodgers are making the calls to inquire about free-agent pitcher Zack Greinke.

Zack Greinke is atop the Los Angeles Dodgers' list of free-agent targets this offseason, and CBS' Danny Knobler reports that the team has already been making the phone rounds to learn more about the player widely considered to be the best pitcher available.

Anibal Sanchez is reportedly the Dodgers' second choice, Knobler reports, but that may not matter. While the Angels are hoping to re-sign Greinke this free-agency period, the money available to their crosstown rivals might give the Dodgers the edge.

Greinke went 15-5 with the Angels last season. The 29 year old produced with a 3.45 ERA and 200 strikeouts in 212.1 innings pitched, and though he is no longer considered to be a No. 1 pitcher, the Dodgers being willing to spend makes them a player.

The Dodgers have already shown an effort to build up the pitching rotation this offseason. They have already committed $22.5 million to Brandon League and are working on negotiations with Korean lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu.
