Zack Greinke Shuts Down Dodgers, Brewers Win 3-1

Jerry Hairston Jr. hit a two-run single to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night at Miller Park. Nathan Eovaldi allowed just those two runs in his six innings of work, suffering his first loss in his third major league start. Zack Greinke struck out eight in seven innings for his 12th win of the season.

It wasn't all bad for the Dodgers, as Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a solo home run off Greinke in the top of the seventh inning. It was Gwynn's first home run since July 17, 2010. It was Gwynn's first home run hit over a fence since April 23, 2010, a span of 575 plate appearances. Gwynn hit two inside-the-park home runs last season.

The Brewers scored their third run in bizarre fashion. After Jonathan Lucroy singled, reliever Josh Lindblom uncorked a wild pitch that Dioner Navarro didn't immediately locate, allowing Lucroy to easily advance to third base. Later in the same at-bat, Lindblom threw another wild pitch, and Lucroy scored.

Rookie Justin Sellers made two athletic double plays at shortstop to save Eovaldi in the early going. In the first inning, Sellers fielded a ground ball and started a pretty double play to rob Prince Fielder. Then, in the third inning with the bases loaded, Sellers dove up the middle to catch a line drive by Ryan Braun, then flipped to Aaron Miles at second base to end the inning.

The Dodgers send ace Clayton Kershaw to the mound on Thursday morning trying to avoid a sweep. Marco Estrada pitches for Milwaukee.

Dodgers Vs. Brewers: Aaron Miles Batting Fifth, Again

The Los Angeles Dodgers hope to end their two-game losing streak Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, but they will have to battle Zack Greinke to do so. Greinke has started 10 times at home this season, and Milwaukee has won all 10 games. But never fear, the Dodgers have Aaron Miles batting fifth in their starting lineup.

Miles has one home run this season and his hitting .287/.306/.353. However, the Dodgers have struggled all season trying to find someone to hit behind Matt Kemp, as their number five hitters have hit a combined .264/.316/.374 with eight home runs. With Juan Rivera sitting out against Greinke, Miles will make his ninth start in the five hole.
