Bay, Pelfrey Lead Mets To Shutout Win Over Dodgers 6-0

The good news for the Dodgers is that Ted Lilly didn't allow six runs, as he did in each of his previous three starts. The bad news for the Dodgers was that it didn't matter, as the offense couldn't score against Mike Pelfrey, and lost to the Mets 6-0, the fourth straight defeat for Los Angeles. Pelfrey pitched six scoreless innings for his fifth win of the season.

Lilly, pitching on six days rest, allowed three runs in his six innings for his first quality start since June 6. He did allow two home runs on the night, to Carlos Beltran and Jason Bay, giving Lilly 18 home runs given up in 18 starts this season. "I thought Teddy through the ball better tonight. He did a better job with the running game," manager Don Mattingly said after the game. "You know, Beltran hit that homer and Bay gets him with the solo. Yeah, home runs have hurt him a little bit."

Bay hit two home runs for the Mets, his second four-RBI game in the last eight days. Aaron Miles was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning, and left one inning later. Miles has a right elbow contusion and is listed as day-to-day. He took x-rays after the game, but results won't be known until later tonight or Wednesday. Matt Kemp stole two bases, giving him 24 on the season, good for third in the National League.

Dodgers Hope Rested Lilly Can Snap Three-Game Losing Skid Against Mets

The Dodgers look to snap a three-game losing streak Tuesday night against the Mets, and hope a rested Ted Lilly can be more effective than he has been recently. Lilly had his start pushed back a day with elbow tenderness, so he is pitching tonight on six days rest. Mike Pelfrey starts for New York.

Lilly has allowed 18 runs in 14 2/3 innings over his last three starts, all Dodger losses. On the season, he is 5-8 with a 4.97 ERA. Lilly was pushed back a day because elbow tenderness prevented him from throwing a bullpen session in between starts for most of the last month. With the off day last Thursday coupled with the rotation shuffle, Lilly had time to get in a bullpen session on Saturday, and reported no soreness on Sunday.

The Dodgers have lost three straight games, including 5-2 on Monday night to the Mets. The Dodgers are now a season-worst 12 games under .500, a depth to which they haven't sunk since the end of the 2005 season. The Dodgers have lost 13 of their last 19 games.

Pelfrey is 4-7 with a 4.92 ERA in 17 starts this season, and he has struggled mightily on the road this season. In 10 road starts, Pelfrey is 1-7 with a 6.75 ERA, and has allowed 11 home runs in 52 innings. Pelfrey is 0-1 with a 4.80 ERA in three starts against the Dodgers.

Tonight's 7:10 p.m. PDT game will be televised by KCAL. For more news and information on the Dodgers, or on tonight's game, be sure to read the SB Nation blog True Blue LA.
