Stars, Stripes, & Making A Buck: Memorial Day Baseball Caps Lead To Some Awful Color Combos

Stay connected for news and updates

The Dodgers and Rockies open up a three-game series Monday night at Dodger Stadium, but it's not just any Monday. With today being Memorial Day, teams across Major League Baseball will be wearing "Stars & Stripes" caps instead of their standard fare. The caps are usually some combination of red, white, and blue, and worn on the various patriotic holidays throughout the season.

It leads to some really terrible color combinations. For instance, tonight the Rockies, whose primary colors are black and the occasional purple, are wearing red & white hats. Seeing all those colors together is terrible:

I am all for honoring fallen heroes, as is the true purpose of Memorial Day, but having such uniforms don't say anything other than "I have terrible taste." Let's be honest: the real reason for MLB issuing these special edition hats is just for one more opportunity to have another piece of merchandise to sell.

Tonight's 5:10 p.m. PDT game will be televised by Prime Ticket.
