Kemp, Dodgers Take Game Two From Giants, 4-3

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Rafael Furcal's RBI single capped a three- run bottom of the sixth inning, as the Dodgers took advantage of an error on Jonathan Sanchez and rallied for a 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants.

One night after Los Angeles took the opener, 2-1, the Dodgers took advantage of more sloppy play from the defending World Series champions. The Giants had a pair of errors in the sixth inning after making three miscues on Thursday.

Rookie Brandon Belt hit his first major league homer, a three-run shot in the fourth inning.

Belt's homer came off Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (1-0), who allowed five hits over six innings.

"Everything went very well, except for one pitch I made a mistake on a 2-0 pitch and he (Belt) hit it out," Billingsley said.

Sanchez (0-1) gave up seven hits and four runs -- two earned -- in 5 2/3 frames.

Matt Kemp singled to center to start the bottom of the sixth and later scored on a sacrifice fly from James Loney. Rod Barajas singled and Aaron Miles reached base safely on an error. Third baseman Pablo Sandoval charged the ball and made the bare-handed play, but the throw to first was wide. That put two runners in scoring position.

Pinch-hitter Hector Gimenez then hit a ball to the left of the mound, but Sanchez let the ball get by him, scoring Barajas. Guillermo Mota entered from the bullpen, but Furcal singled to right field to score Miles with the go- ahead run.

The Giants loaded the bases the following inning, but Blake Hawksworth fanned Buster Posey to end the threat.

Matt Guerrier pitched the eighth inning and Jonathan Broxton tossed the ninth for his second save.

Kemp's ground-rule double in the third plated Billingsley, who walked.

The Giants went ahead 3-1 on Belt's towering blast over the wall in center field the following inning. The hit scored Buster Posey and Sandoval, who both singled.

"He's great, I know he's going to do a lot of things well," Sandoval said of Belt. "He's a big kid and if he keeps hitting the ball like that it's going to be fun for the team."

Game Notes

The Giants left eight men on base...Billingsley has posted a 5-1 mark against the Giants at home since 2008...Earlier Friday, Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez agreed to a contract extension with the club through the 2012 season.

Dodgers Vs. Giants: Elbow Injury Sidelines Juan Uribe

Dodgers' third baseman Juan Uribe, who was hit on the left elbow by a Tim Lincecum pitch in Thursday night's opener, was a late scratch from tonight's lineup. Uribe was penciled in to bat fifth tonight, as he will likely be most of the season when the Dodgers face a left-hander, swapping fifth and sixth spots in the order with James Loney. However, Uribe showed up today with swelling in his elbow, and he was removed from the lineup.

Aaron Miles will start at third base in place of Uribe. Uribe went to get x-rays, and manager Don Mattingly said they won't fully know the extent of the injury until those ex-ray results are in. Here is tonight's revised Dodgers lineup:

Furcal SS
DeJesus 2B
Ethier RF
Kemp CF
Thames LF
Loney 1B
Barajas C
Miles 3B
Billingsley P

Ivan DeJesus is making his major league debut for the Dodgers, batting second and playing second base.

Here is the Giants lineup:

Torres CF
Sanchez 2B
Huff RF
Posey C
Burrell LF
Sandoval 3B
Belt 1B
Tejada SS
Sanchez P

San Francisco is using the same eight players in tonight's lineup, but Pablo Sandoval and Miguel Tejada have swapped places in the batting order.

Dodgers Vs. Giants: Chad Billingsley Takes The Hill In Game Two

The Los Angeles Dodgers got a stellar pitching performance from Clayton Kershaw in their opening night win against the Giants, and hope for a repeat performance tonight at Dodger Stadium. Chad Billingsley gets the start tonight for the Dodgers as they hope to open the season 2-0. Billingsley is 6-3 with a 2.63 ERA in his career against San Francisco, and has been even better at home, per True Blue LA:

Billingsley has two career shutouts, and both are against the Giants, and both are at Dodger Stadium. In fact, here are Billingsley's last five home starts against SF:

The Giants will counter tonight with Jonathan Sanchez, who was 13-9 with a 3.07 ERA last season for the World Series champs. Marcus Thames will get his first start as a Dodger tonight, playing against the left-handed Sanchez. The plan for Thames is for him start against lefties and some righties this season.
