Clippers Sign Ronny Turiaf To One-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Clippers have found another crucial bench cog by grabbing power forward Ronny Turiaf.

Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times files this report on the details of the contract.

The Clippers and free-agent Ronny Turiaf have agreed to a one-year, veteran’s minimum contract worth $1.146 million, said NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Turiaf, a 6-10, 245-pounder, will be a backup power forward and center for the Clippers.

Turiaf's most recent stint came with the Miami Heat, where he won an NBA championship this past season. Turiaf averaged only 1.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game with Miami in the playoffs in about an average of ten minutes of playing time per game, and played only minimal time during the regular season. The former Gonzaga big has spent a couple of years with the Lakers and Warriors, as well as the Knicks and the Wizards.

Turiaf will join Lamar Odom and Ryan Hollins as the primary Clipper bigs off the bench, joining Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Neither Turiaf and Hollins can hope to match the rebounding capacity of Reggie Evans (although Odom will be more of a playmaker), but they might be able to provide more of a scoring punch, and Turiaf might be able to showcase some of the trademark energy off the bench.
