Team USA Basketball Dominates Great Britain, Kobe Bryant Continues Strong Play

Team USA continued their preparations for the 2012 Olympics on Thursday afternoon, facing Great Britain in an exhibition game. It was a complete blowout for the USA, with LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams all scoring 15 points or more in a 118-78 victory.

Kobe Bryant continued to play strong defense and added five points on just three shot attempts from the field. Chris Paul had three points and dished out six assists, turning the ball over just one time. That is a great sign for Team USA. The afore mentioned Westbrook, who is a former UCLA Bruin, also dished out nine assists in addition to his 15 points.

Team USA will play two more exhibition games before the games in London begin.

Blake Griffin Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

It is hard to judge who he has a bigger impact on - the front line of the U.S. National Team or the Los Angeles Clippers, but two collective gasps were heard when Blake Griffin went down with an apparent knee injury during a Team U.S.A. practice on July 11th.

Griffin felt discomfort in his knee and underwent an MRI on July 12th which revealed the damage sustained in the team's practice arena in Las Vegas.

The Clippers announced today that Griffin underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair a medical meniscus tear in his left knee. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.

Although Griffin will miss the entirety of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he is expected back at full health in time for the start of the Clippers training camp in the fall.

U.S. Struggles Against Brazil Before Lebron Takes Over in 80-69 Win

The Dream Team never found itself in a 10 point hole against international competition. Sometimes it is amazing how quickly one's statements can be followed by their foot in their mouth.

After saying that the 2012 U.S.A. Team could beat the fabled 1992 Dream Team, the U.S.A. struggled early against a feisty Brazil squad. It wasn't until the team locked down defensively limiting Brazil to just two field goals in the second quarter, using a decisive 16-2 run to lead at half by five.

Lebron James led all scorers with 30 points and the U.S. struggled from long range, only hitting one of 12 three point attempts.

President Obama and Vice President Biden were in the stands, and Obama was denied on the "Kiss Cam" by the First Lady in the second quarter, probably the second biggest story to the U.S. team's initial struggles. After walloping the Domincan Republic 113-59, the U.S. expected a much stiffer challenge.

The U.S. Team now travels to Europe to play Britain in England on Thursday, and then travel to Spain to face Argentina and Spain.

Kevin Love Helps USA Basketball To Dominican Republic Exhibition Victory

The United States men's basketball team beat the Dominican Republic in a tune-up for the 2012 Summer Olympics, and it wasn't even close. The final score came to the tune of 113-59. Kevin Durant led the way with 24 points and ten rebounds, Andre Iguodala added 19 points, Carmelo Anthony chipped in 13, Deron Williams dished 10 assists.

Neither Chris Paul nor Kobe Bryant had distinguishable nights, and Russell Westbrook had six points. Kevin Love really had a good night though, draining several threes and finishing with 11 points overall. The big news of the day is probably

The United States moves on to face Brazil in Washington D.C., then proceeds to face Great Britain in Manchester, England before concluding their pre-Olympic tour in Barcelona by facing both Spain and Italy.

Blake Griffin Injury Report: Clippers PF Will Undergo Arthroscopic Surgery

Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin will undergo arthroscopic surgery to treat a meniscus tear in his left knee, an injury he suffered in a team USA scrimmage on Wednesday.

As a result of Griffin's injury, he will not participate in this summer's olympics in London, providing a significant blow to the USA's front court depth. All reports indicate that Griffin will be ready to play once Clippers training camp begins in October.

"We're relieved that this does not affect Blake's ability to be ready in time for training camp," said Clippers' Head Coach Vinny Del Negro. "Missing out on the Olympic experience will be tough for him to take. I know how dedicated he was to doing that. We're glad we can get this fixed now and take advantage of the available time for him to fully recover." (Via: NBA.com)

Griffin will now undergo surgery and engage in daily recovery to be ready for the Clippers' training camp. New Orleans Hornets rookie, Anthony Davis, is Griffin's replacement for the Olympic games in London.

Blake Griffin Injury Report: Clippers PF Will Be Ready For Training Camp, No Olympics

Blake Griffin won't be participating in the London Games. The Clippers power forward flew back to Los Angeles earlier today, and now the reports seem to indicate the Olympics are not going to happen as he heals up.

The good news is that it won't affect his status for the upcoming season. At least if preliminary reports are any indication. Both Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated and Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports filed similar stories.

Griffin now leaves the US Olympic team with virtually no big men. Tyson Chandler is the only pure center on this team, and Anthony Davis will probably be featured in limited periods as a rookie. The United States will probably have to feature Kevin Durant and LeBron James as big men more prominently to shore up their weakness inside, although Durant and James have both played at the 4 (and James was often able to play center last season, particularly in the playoffs).

Luckily, NBA fans will probably not have to worry about Griffin being ready for action, as he figures to be all-healed up by the time the season begins.

Blake Griffin Injury: Clippers Release Statement, Will Undergo MRI

After Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin injured himself at a Wednesday scrimmage for the team USA men's basketball team, he was flown back to Los Angeles to meet with team doctors and go over his injury.

The Clippers released a statement acknowledging the injury on Thursday, though set no timetable for return or concrete diagnosis. Below is the statement in full:

Clippers forward Blake Griffin experienced some left knee discomfort after completing Wednesday's practice as a member of Team USA in Las Vegas. He will travel to Los Angeles today and will not be available for Team USA's game Thursday night in Las Vegas versus the Dominican Republic.

Upon arrival in Los Angeles, Griffin will undergo an MRI and be examined by the Clippers' medical staff. On Sunday, he will also be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.

An announcement concerning their joint conclusion and a further course of action will be made available by the Clippers, as soon as possible after that.

This is indeed the same knee that Blake had injured during the playoffs a few months ago, as well as the same knee that he had a stress fracture in back in 2009 causing him to miss the entirety of his rookie season in the NBA. Hopefully it will not be too serious for Blake this time around.
