Clippers Vs. Mavericks: NBA Playoff Preview?

After sweeping a five-game homestand, Chris Paul and the Los Angeles Clippers hit the road Monday night to face Dirk Nowitzki and the defending champion Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center. Here are the relevant details of Monday night's contest:

Playoff Preview?: As it stands right now, the Clippers hold the fourth seed in the Western Conference with the Mavericks at No. 5, meaning the two teams would face one another in the first round of the playoffs were the season to end today. The Clippers are a game and a half behind the Lakers in the Pacific Division, while the Mavericks are angling for that No. 4 seed and home court advantage in the first round.

Going Streaking: The Clippers have won five straight games, their longest winning streak since November 2006.

Series History: The two teams have split two games this season, with the home team winning each time. The Clippers have lost 10 straight games in Dallas, with their last win coming April 19, 2006.

Clippers Schedule 2012: Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers Provide Tests This Week

Whew. At least March is over.

The Los Angeles Clippers played the first 20-game calendar month in the NBA since February 1967 and though they started the month struggling, the Clippers ended with a flourish, a five-game homestand sweep that has kept the Clippers in the thick of the Pacific Division race with the Lakers, as well as in line to have home court advantage in a playoff series for the first time in franchise history.

Here is a look at the week ahead for the Clippers, highlighted by battles with the defending NBA champions and the battle of Staples Center.

Monday - Clippers at Dallas (5:30 p.m., Fox Sports West): These two teams have played a pair of close games this season, with the Clippers earning a two-point win in Los Angeles on January 18 and the Mavericks prevailing by four points in Dallas on February 16.

Wednesday - Lakers at Clippers (7:30 p.m., Prime Ticket, KCAL, ESPN): The winner of this game will have the tiebreaker, and the inside track at winning the Pacific Division, as the two teams open the week separated by just a game in the loss column.

Thursday - Clippers at Sacramento (7 p.m., Fox Sports West): The Clippers beat Sacramento in their only previous matchup this season, a 108-100 road victory.

Saturday - Sacramento at Clippers (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports West): The Clippers have won seven straight home games, and are 36-13 in their last 49 home games dating back to last season.

Clippers Vs. Jazz Final Score: Chris Paul, Blake Griffin Lead L.A. Over Utah, 105-96

The Los Angeles Clippers rode a hot first quarter to beat the Utah Jazz 105-96 at Staples Center Saturday night, the fifth straight victory for the Clippers. The Clippers hit six three-pointers en route to a 38-22 lead after the opening period.

The Clippers have won five straight games for the first time since November 2006.

Blake Griffin had 24 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the win for the Clippers, who shot 54.2% on the night. Chris Paul led the team with 26 points and six assists. Randy Foye added 17 points int he win.

Paul left the game in the third quarter with a bruised right elbow, returning to the locker room for treatment. Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Paul returned to the bench from the locker room with a sleeve on his right elbow, to the applause of fans. Paul re-entered the game with 11 minutes left.

The Clippers finished their busy March at 11-9, and remain one game behind the Los Angeles Lakers for first place in the Pacific Division with 14 games remaining. The Clippers are just the 29th team in NBA history to play 20 games in a month, and the first since the Cincinnati Royals in February 1967.

Al Jefferson led the Jazz with 26 points.

After their five-game homestand, the Clippers hit the road to battle the Mavericks in Dallas on Tuesday night.
