Clippers 113, Warriors 109: Blake Griffin Flirts With Triple-Double, Hits Game Winning Triple Instead

Blake Griffin continued his amazing rookie season, flirting with a first triple-double, but instead hit the game-winning three-pointer to give the Los Angeles Clippers a 113-109 win over Golden State Warriors at Staples Center. Griffin, who had 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists at halftime, ended with 30 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists, including a tie-breaking three-pointer with 45.9 seconds left. The eight assists and 18 rebounds are new career highs for the rookie.

There have only been 16 Clippers ever to get a triple double:

Of the 27 triple-doubles in Clippers history, all but one have featured at least 10 points, rebounds, and assists. The only exception was Benjamin, who had 10 blocks to go along with his 25 points and 10 rebounds on March 31, 1989 against San Antonio. The only rookie to pick up a triple-double was Odom, who had 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists on December 30, 1999 at Houston.

Eric Gordon had 23 points tonight, his ninth straight game with 20 or more points. But he landed hard on a foul with 4:44 minutes remaining in the third quarter, and had to leave the game one possession later with a lower back contusion. He later returned in the fourth quarter..

Clippers Vs. Warriors: Blake Griffin Nearing First Triple Double

The Los Angeles Clippers got off to a hot start tonight, looking for their seventh straight win at home, as they lead the Golden State Warriors, 65-56 at halftime at Staples Center. The Clippers were led by their two stars in the first 24 minutes. Eric Gordon led all scorers with 18 points, on 6-of-11 shooting, while Blake Griffin is well on his way to a triple double, which would be the first of his career.

Grififn, who struggled shooting Thursday night in Portland, scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including an impressive alley-oop dunk to add to his highlight reel. Griffin also picked up eight rebounds and dished out seven assists. The seven assists for Griffin are a career high, matching a total he has reached five other times this season.

Monta Ellis, who was questionable to play tonight with a sprained ankle, led Golden State in the first half with 13 points. Ellis is third in the NBA in scoring, averaging 26.0 points per game. The Clippers are 13-8 this season when they lead at halftime, including 10-5 at home.

Clippers Vs. Warriors: Monta Ellis Questionable With Left Ankle Sprain

The Los Angeles Clippers are looking for their seventh straight home win tonight when they host the Golden State Warriors at Staples Center. Monta Ellis sprained his left ankle in last night's win against Sacramento, and is listed as questionable for tonight's game. Ellis is third in the NBA is scoring, averaging 26.0 points per game, and has led Golden State in scoring 26 times in 42 games. He has not missed a game yet this season. Here is a look at tonight's probable starting lineups and injury reports:

Warriors (19-23)

Lou Amundson, who missed last game and has only played 16 total minutes in the three games prior to that, is also questionable with a left ankle sprain.

Clippers (16-26)

The usual trio of suspects are on the Clippers injury report: Chris Kaman, who has missed 21 straight games; Brian Cook, who has missed 15 straight games; and Craig Smith, who has missed 14 straight games.

Tonight's 7:30 p.m. PST game will be televised on Prime Ticket.

Clippers Host Warriors, With Or Without Monta Ellis, Seeking Seventh Straight Home Win

The Los Angeles Clippers look for their seventh straight home win tonight as they host the Golden State Warriors at Staples Center. The two clubs should be familiar with one another, as this is their third meeting in the last 14 days. Monta Ellis, the third-leading scorer in the NBA, injured his ankle late in the fourth quarter in Friday night's win over Sacramento, and it is unknown whether or not he will play tonight.

The Clippers got a rare appearance on national television Thursday night, losing to Portland at the Rose Garden. However, at least Eric Gordon got to show a national audience his talents. Gordon hit a career-high seven three-pointers, scoring 22 of his 35 points in the second half. He led a second-half comeback for the Clippers, pulling them to within three in the final minutes, but Portland pulled away at the end for a 108-93 win.

The Clippers and Warriors have met three previous times this season, with the home team winning each contest. This is their fourth and final meeting this season. The Clippers have won six straight games at home, and are 13-13 at Staples Center this season. Since moving to Los Angeles in 1984, they have won as many as seven consecutive home games four times (last in 2005), with a record of eight straight in 1993.
