Clippers Fall To Spurs, 100-99, On Late Three-Pointer

Mexico City, MX (Sports Network) - Gary Neal's three-pointer with 1.5 seconds to play gave the San Antonio Spurs a dramatic 100-99 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in preseason action.

The back-and-forth tilt featured both teams trading blows over the last two minutes. Eric Gordon's driving layup tied the game at 95-95 with 1:45 to play, but Bobby Simmons connected on a mid-range jumper moments later to give the Spurs the lead.

Randy Foye made one free throw after San Antonio's George Hill was whistled for a technical foul, but Gordon missed two free throws that could have given the Clippers the lead. Chris Kaman did convert with 25.8 seconds remaining, giving Los Angeles a one-point lead, 98-97, and after Neal missed a trey, Ryan Gomes connected on 1-of-2 free throws with 10.3 ticks left.

The Spurs called timeout with just over eight seconds left and drew up the winning play for Neal, who made his first shot in four attempts.

DeJuan Blair led the Spurs with 21 points and six rebounds, while Tim Duncan recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Curtis Jerrells chipped in with 11 points off the bench for San Antonio.

Gordon led all scorers with 23 points on 6-of-14 shooting, Kaman posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Blake Griffin added 13 points and 17 rebounds in defeat. Rasual Butler had 20 points, going 6-of-10 from beyond the arc.

Clippers Head South Of The Border To Play Spurs

The Los Angeles Clippers are set to play their fourth preseason game, but have yet to play a game at Staples Center. They are technically the home team tonight against the San Antonio Spurs, but the game is in Mexico City at Palacios de los Deportes.

Blake Griffin has averaged 16.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game so far in the preseason, in just 23 minutes per contest. He has made 20 of 27 shots from the field (74.0%), but has struggled mightily from the free throw line, making only 10 of 24 shots from the charity stripe (41.7%), missing at least half of his foul shots in all three games.

The Clippers have lost 16 straight regular season contests to the Spurs, with their last win coming on March 7, 2006.

On Saturday, the Clippers trimmed their preseason roster to 15 by waiving guards Stephen Dennis and Jon Scheyer; and center Jake Voskuhl.

For the first time this season, the Clippers are on television. Today's game, at 5:30 p.m. PDT, is on NBA TV. It is also on radio on KFWB 980.
