Jered Weaver Injury: Angels Starter Throws Pain Free

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver successfully threw a long-toss session in the outfield Sunday afternoon, according to Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times.

Weaver, who owns a 16-4 record with a 2.86 ERA in 2012, will now throw from a mound Monday. If he emerges from that test pain-free, then the three-time all-star is expected to make his return this Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics.

Weaver missed his start on Friday as a precautionary measure to rest the biceps tendinitis that has reportedly been reoccurring on and off since throwing a complete game on Aug. 6.

The Angels currently sit six games back in the AL West hunt but Weaver's likely return against the A's couldn't have come against a better team as Oakland leads Wild Card race by 2.5 games. Wednesday's start would fall on game three of the four game series.

With Jered Weaver Out, Angels Shuffle Rotation Against Tigers

With Jered Weaver out with shoulder tendonitis, the Los Angeles Angels have changed their weekend rotation for their three-game series against the Detroit Tigers. Ervin Santana will start in place of Weaver on Friday, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

Weaver's next start has yet to be determined, and is expected to be announced this weekend.

Here's a look at the weekend pitching matchup in Anaheim between two postseason hopefuls:

The Halos have won three straight games and eight of their last nine games, and find themselves 2½ games behind the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles for the second wild card in the American League.

The Angels host the A's for four games next week after the Tigers series, and have 13 of their next 16 games at home, where the Halos are 36-29 this season.

Jered Weaver Injury Update: Angels P Will Miss Start With Shoulder Tendinitis

The Los Angeles Angels will be without their ace this weekend as they take on the Detroit Tigers. Jered Weaver, who had been battling shoulder discomfort for a couple of starts, underwent an MRI and has been diagnosed with shoulder tendinitis.

According to the Angels, Weaver will not make his scheduled start on Friday night and will likely pitch sometime next week. The team will announce his next scheduled start over the weekend.

The loss of Weaver is a substantial one for Los Angeles. The 29-year-old starter has been terrific this season, posting a record of 16-4 and a 2.86 ERA. The Angels entered Thursday 7.5 games back of the Rangers in the American League West and just 2.5 back of the second wild card spot, and they'll need their ace healthy if they hope to make a run in September.

The club is expected to announce their starter for Friday night's game sometime this afternoon.

Jered Weaver Back In Los Angeles To Have Shoulder Examined

Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver will head back to L.A. on Wednesday to have his sore throwing shoulder examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum, and will likely miss his upcoming start against the Detroit Tigers according to Angels beat writer Mike DiGiovanna on Twitter.

Head coach Mike Scoscia noted that he is not sure when Weaver will throw again, but as the Angels sit just 3.5 games back in the AL wild card race, any time missed by the Cy Young winner will be troublesome for the club.

Weaver took a line drive off the bat of Dustin Ackley in the shoulder during the fifth inning of Sunday's game up in Seattle. Ervin Santana, C.J. Wilson and Zack Greinke are now expected to start against Detroit this weekend.
