Stay connected for news and updates

The Los Angeles Angels put the exclamation point on their statement series at the O.co Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon. The Halos completed the three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics by a final score of 7-1 to stay alive in the Wild Card race.

The Angels got on the board first yet again with a big three-run inning in the top of the third. Torii Hunter and Howie Kendrick hit RBI singles in the inning, with Albert Pujols running through the stop sign at third base to score the third run and make it 3-0 Los Angeles.

Seth Smith hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to cut the Angels lead to 3-1 but starter Dan Haren was able to avoid further trouble.

In the top of the ninth, the Angels broke the game open with a big four-run inning. Maicer Izturis drew a bases-loaded walk, Hunter drove in two runs with an RBI single -- giving him three RBI in the game -- and Izturis came home on a double-steal as the Angels plated their seventh run of the game.
