Angels Vs. Athletics Final Score: Halos Sweep Oakland, 7-1

The Los Angeles Angels put the exclamation point on their statement series at the O.co Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon. The Halos completed the three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics by a final score of 7-1 to stay alive in the Wild Card race.

The Angels got on the board first yet again with a big three-run inning in the top of the third. Torii Hunter and Howie Kendrick hit RBI singles in the inning, with Albert Pujols running through the stop sign at third base to score the third run and make it 3-0 Los Angeles.

Seth Smith hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to cut the Angels lead to 3-1 but starter Dan Haren was able to avoid further trouble.

In the top of the ninth, the Angels broke the game open with a big four-run inning. Maicer Izturis drew a bases-loaded walk, Hunter drove in two runs with an RBI single -- giving him three RBI in the game -- and Izturis came home on a double-steal as the Angels plated their seventh run of the game.

Jered Weaver Back In Los Angeles To Have Shoulder Examined

Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver will head back to L.A. on Wednesday to have his sore throwing shoulder examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum, and will likely miss his upcoming start against the Detroit Tigers according to Angels beat writer Mike DiGiovanna on Twitter.

Head coach Mike Scoscia noted that he is not sure when Weaver will throw again, but as the Angels sit just 3.5 games back in the AL wild card race, any time missed by the Cy Young winner will be troublesome for the club.

Weaver took a line drive off the bat of Dustin Ackley in the shoulder during the fifth inning of Sunday's game up in Seattle. Ervin Santana, C.J. Wilson and Zack Greinke are now expected to start against Detroit this weekend.

Angels Vs. Athletics Final Score: Halos Clinch Series With 6-1 Victory

The Los Angeles Angels once again dispatched their division rivals the Oakland Athletics with ease on Tuesday night. The Halos picked up the 6-1 win to win the first two games of the three-game series at the O.co Coliseum.

The Angels were finally able to get to starter Jarrod Parker in the fifth inning, when Mike Trout singled home Alberto Callaspo to start the scoring and put the Halos on top first. Callaspo helped out with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 2-0 Los Angeles.

The A's scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run from Brandon Moss to cut the lead in half. The Halos answered back in the top of the eighth with a pair of two-out RBI hits from Erick Aybar and Callaspo. Callaspo ended the evening going two-for-three with two RBI.

Kendrys Morales delivered two big insurance runs in the top of the ninth with a two-out double to put the game away.

Starter Zack Greinke held the A's to one run on four hits and two walks in seven innings of work. The Angels will go for the big sweep on Wednesday.

Angels Minor Leaguer Yancarlos Santiago Suspended 25 Games

Los Angeles Angels left-handed minor league pitcher Yancarlos Santiago has been suspended for 25 games without pay for violating MLB's Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, according to MLB.com.

Santiago, a 21-year-old relief pitcher for rookie-level Orem, pitched in 15 games for the Owls in 2012 and posted a 1-3 record with a 5.91 ERA. His suspension is effective immediately.

Major League Baseball handed out two other drug-related suspensions on Tuesday as well.

Free agent minor league right-hander Ysmael Carmona, who last pitched for the Angels' Double-A Arkansas Travelers, was suspended for 25 games for violating MLB's Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. His suspension will begin immediately upon his signing with another Major League organization.

Baltimore Orioles minor league left-handed pitcher Kevin Grendell has been suspended for 50 games without pay after testing positive for Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). The suspension of Grendell, a member of the Gulf Coast League Orioles, is effective immediately.

Angels Mike Trout Wins AL Rookie Of The Month, Again

In an announcement that surprised no one, Angels outfielder Mike Trout was named AL Rookie of the Month for the fourth consecutive month, according to MLB Public Relations.

While no MLB rookie has ever earned the honor in four consecutive months (let alone three), Trout becomes the first rookie to be named AL Rookie of the Month four times in one season since Ichiro Suzuki did so in 2001. Suzuki earned the honor five times that season, and barring a serious meltdown in September it appears that Trout will match that mark.

In 28 games in August, Trout hit .284 with seven home runs, 19 RBI, 11 stolen bases and posted an .866 OPS.

Trout is the clear-cut favorite for AL Rookie of the Year, and should garner quite a few AL MVP votes as well.

Angels Roster Moves: Hank Conger, Barry Enright Called Up

The Angels added two more players to their roster on Tuesday afternoon, calling up catcher Hank Conger and right-handed pitcher Barry Enright from Triple-A Salt Lake City, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Conger, a graduate of Huntington Beach High School, hit .295 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI in 67 games for the Bees in 2012 while battling a nagging shoulder injury. He will be the fourth catcher on the Halos roster, joining Chris Iannetta, Bobby Wilson and John Hester, and will most likely be used as a left-handed bat off the bench.

Enright, a product of Pepperdine University, was acquired in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks for infielder Frazier Hall on July 24, 2012. He struggled at Triple-A Reno at the beginning of the year, posting an 8-6 record with a 5.87 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP, but bounced back after the trade and went 5-1 for the Bees, posting a 2.73 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 52 2/3 innings. He could be called upon as a long reliever or put on mop-up duty for the Halos down the stretch.

Angels Vs. Athletics Game Preview: Zack Greinke Takes The Mound

The Angels send Zack Greinke to the mound with a chance to gain ground on the Wild Card-leading Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night at Oakland Coliseum. The A's will counter with right-hander Jarrod Parker.

Greinke is 12-5 with a 3.82 ERA on the season, but hasn't performed up to his standards since arriving in Los Angeles at the end of July. With the Angels, the former Cy Young award winner is just 3-2 with a 4.82 ERA. Greinke was solid in his last outing, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs to the Boston Red Sox.

The A's lineup will present a challenge for the Angels. Oakland has been red-hot in the second half and leads the Major League in home runs since the All-Star break.

Parker comes into the game with 9-7 with a 3.72 ERA. He struggled in his last start against the Cleveland Indians, giving up five earned runs on eight hits in just five innings pitched.

Los Angeles can pull within 3.5 games of the A's with a win on Tuesday. It is 3.5 back of the Baltimore Orioles for the final Wild Card spot.

First pitch is schedule for 7:05 p.m. PT.

Torii Hunter led off the third inning with a home run and Erick Aybar added a two-out RBI single to make it 4-0 Halos. Wells led off the fourth inning with another home run, his 10th of the season.
