Jered Weaver Injury: Angels Starter Throws Pain Free

Stay connected for news and updates

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver successfully threw a long-toss session in the outfield Sunday afternoon, according to Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times.

Weaver, who owns a 16-4 record with a 2.86 ERA in 2012, will now throw from a mound Monday. If he emerges from that test pain-free, then the three-time all-star is expected to make his return this Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics.

Weaver missed his start on Friday as a precautionary measure to rest the biceps tendinitis that has reportedly been reoccurring on and off since throwing a complete game on Aug. 6.

The Angels currently sit six games back in the AL West hunt but Weaver's likely return against the A's couldn't have come against a better team as Oakland leads Wild Card race by 2.5 games. Wednesday's start would fall on game three of the four game series.
