Peter Bourjos Injury: Angels OF Begins Rehab Assignment In Triple A Salt Lake Monday

The Los Angeles Angels announced on Monday that outfielder Peter Bourjos will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Monday night with the Triple A Salt Lake Bees.

Bourjos has been on the disabled list since August 22 with a sore right wrist. The earliest date he can be activated from the DL is September 7.

It has been a frustrating year for Bourjos, who is hitting .227/.287/.325 in 88 games. It has been a sharp decline for the 25-year-old, who hit .271/.327/.438 with 26 doubles, 11 triples, 12 home runs, and 22 stolen bases as an every day player in 2011. After starting 138 games last season, Bourjos has found himself the odd man out in most cases in the outfield with just 47 starts this season.

Bourjos played for the Bees in 2010, hitting .314/.364/.498 with 13 doubles, 12 triples, 13 home runs, and 27 steals in 102 games in Salt Lake.

Angels Vs. Tigers Final Score: Halos Stifled In 5-2 Loss

The Los Angeles Angels lost another tough series on Sunday, falling to the Detroit Tigers by a final score of 5-2 to drop the last two games at Comerica Park.

Mike Trout managed to score the first run of the game in the first inning as Torii Hunter grounded into a double play, but the Angels bats fell asleep after that.

Andy Dirks hit a long RBI triple in the third inning to tie things up. Ervin Santana tried his best to hold things down in hopes the Halos could muster some offense, but Prince Fielder launched a two-run homer in the sixth inning to put the Tigers ahead 3-1. Delmon Young then went back-to-back for a Detroit insurance run. Quintin Berry tacked on one last run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Kendrys Morales hit an RBI single off of Tigers closer Jose Valverde in the top of the ninth to give the Angels a chance to get back into the game, but Valverde was able to get Mark Trumbo to pop out and struck out Howie Kendrick before Erick Aybar popped out to end it.

Los Angeles returns home on Tuesday for a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.

Albert Pujols Injury: Angels 1B Out Of Lineup For 4th Straight Game

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols, who has been out of the Angels' lineup for the last three days because of a calf injury, will miss his fourth straight game Sunday when the Angels take on the Detroit Tigers, according to reports.

Pujols appeared to injure his right calf running the bases on Wednesday against the Red Sox and has not appeared for the Angels since. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Pujols might be available Sunday in the "right situation," according to MLB.com, but the slugger has yet to appear in the series against the Detroit Tigers.

The Angels have split two games in the series with the Tigers, as both teams are jockeying for position in the American League Wild Card race and playoff picture.

The Angels are off Monday, and Scioscia said Pujols would be reevaluated before the Angels open a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox. The Angels swept the Red Sox in a three-game series last week.

Angels Vs. Tigers Game Preview: Halos Go For Series Win

With Albert Pujols likely sidelined for a fourth straight game because of a calf injury, the Los Angeles Angels send Ervin Santana to the mound looking to capture the three-game set against the Detroit Tigers.

Without Pujols in the lineup, the Angels have struggled to score much against the TIgers' pitching, and will be challenged again Sunday as Max Scherzer takes the mound. In his last start against the Angels, Scherzer allowed the Angels just one run and three hits over seven innings.

Outfielder Mike Trout has struggled during the series, going 0-9 in two games as the Angels have looked for production without Pujols in the lineup.

Santana looks to capture a victory in his fourth consecutive decision, and third straight start for the Angels, which are looking to stay in the playoff picture in the American League. The Angels stand 3.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot in the American League as of Sunday morning.

Angels Vs. Tigers Final Score: Win Streak Snapped With 5-3 Loss

The Los Angeles Angels were unable to hold onto an early lead on Saturday, losing the second game of their three-game series to the Detroit Tigers by a final score of 5-3.

Vernon Wells led off the third inning with a home run to get the scoring started and Howie Kendrick added a two-out RBI single later in the inning to give starter Dan Haren a 2-0 lead. Erick Aybar chipped in with an RBI double in the fourth inning to stretch that lead out to 3-0.

The Tigers slowly hammered at the lead, with Delmon Young and Andy Dirks each picking up an RBI hit in the sixth to cut the Angels lead to 3-2. The Angels went to their bullpen, which once again blew the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run double to put the Tigers ahead, 4-3. Alex Avila then contributed the big insurance run with an RBI single to put the game out of reach.

The Tigers have evened up the series with the win, but the Angels will try to capture the rubber game and the series on Sunday.

Albert Pujols Injury: Angels First Baseman Reportedly Expected Back Tuesday At The Earliest

Albert Pujols is not expected to return to the Los Angeles Angels lineup until Tuesday at the earliest, according to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett:

Pujols has been dealing with inflammation in his right calf since Thursday when he exited the Angels' game against the Boston Red Sox in the fourth inning. He underwent an MRI on Thursday, which revealed no serious or structural damage. If the Angels want to make an effective late-season push for a playoff spot, they'll need a healthy Pujols, and that requires showing a bit of patience at this point.

Angels Vs. Tigers Game Preview: Halos Seek 5th Straight Win

The Los Angeles Angels are finally playing up to their potential these past few days, winning four games in a row despite having a couple of guys banged up. The club will go for their fifth straight victory on Saturday as they give the ball to veteran righty Dan Haren. He has really struggled in recent starts while dealing with a lower back issues, although it appears he is feeling strong enough to give it a go this evening.

The Detroit Tigers will hand the ball to young lefty Drew Smyly. He enters the game with a record of 4-3 with a 4.42 ERA, although he's 2-1 with a 6.32 ERA over the course of his last three starts. The Tigers always seem to score runs while Smyly is on the mound, which can't be a good sign for LAA.

First pitch from Comerica Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET / 4:05 p.m. PT.
