Angels Vs. Rays Final Score: Halos Unable To Avoid Sweep With 8-3 Loss

The Los Angeles Angels tried to avoid being swept at home on Sunday and came up well short, dropping the finale of the four-game series by a final score of 8-3.

The Rays once again dumped a big inning on a Halos starter in the second innings, when they scored four runs off of Zack Greinke. Elliot Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to open the scoring in embarrassing fashion. Two batters later, Greinke walked B.J. Upton to force in another run. Matt Joyce then singled in a pair of Rays to make it 4-0.

Mike Trout led off the fourth inning with his 24th home run of the year to get the Halos on the board, but Ryan Roberts dumped a two-run homer into left field in the top of the fifth to make it 6-1 Rays.

In the bottom of the sixth, Albert Pujols hit his 28th home run of the season to get the Angels another run closer. The bullpen was unable to hold things there, however, as a Carlos Pena double in the top of the ninth brought two more Tampa Bay runners home to make it 8-2.

Erick Aybar singled home Alberto Callaspo in the bottom of the ninth, but that's as close as the Halos were able to get. They will fall another game behind the A's and settle further into third place in the American League West.
