Just a short while after the news broke that the Los Angeles Angels had acquired Zack Greinke on Friday, the Halos picked up a big series-opening win over the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. Dan Haren had another strong start since being activated from the disabled list and the Angels hung on to win by a final score of 3-1.
Jeff Keppinger hit a home run in the top of the second to get Tampa Bay up 1-0 early, but the bottom of the third was the big inning for the Angels. The inning ended up decided the game, as the Angels scored all three of their runs on a double from Albert Pujols and a single from Mark Trumbo.
Haren went six innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk. He moved back to 8-8. Ernesto Frieri picked up his 12 save with a perfect ninth inning.
