Zack Greinke Trade: Angels Send Three Highly Regarded Prospects To Brewers

The Los Angeles Angels have made a huge splash with just three days remaining before the July 31 trade deadline. The club acquired Brewers ace Zack Greinke in exchange for three prospects, all of which were ranked in the Angels' top-10 entering the year.

Jean Segura, a shortstop, was the No. 2 prospect in the system behind only Mike Trout. Just 22 years old, Segura hit .294 in Double-A ball this season with a .749 OPS and 33 steals on 46 attempts. He projects to be the new Brewers starting shortstop from the day he arrives. He made his MLB debut on Tuesday with the Angels, going 0-for-3.

John Hellweg, 23, is a right-handed pitcher currently in Double-A. He comes in at 6'9'' and 210 pounds. He was the Angels' No. 4 prospect entering the season, and it appears the jury is still out on whether or not he'll make it as a starter or if he'll move to a late-inning bullpen role. Hellweg has a record of 5-10 this season with an ERA 3.38 and average strikeout and walk numbers.

Ariel Pena was the No. 9 prospect in the system. Here is what Keith Law of ESPN had to say about him after naming Pena a sleeper prospect in the organization.

Right-hander Ariel Pena doesn't have a lot of command right now, but he's got a fastball up to 97 mph and a wipeout slider that misses a ton of bats. He'll need to throw more strikes and find an effective weapon against lefties -- who had a .428 OBP against him in the Cal League -- to profile as a starter.
