Angels Vs. Rangers Final Score: Halos Take Key Series With 7-4 Win

The Los Angeles Angels knew that they needed to make a statement as they hosted the Texas Rangers over the weekend. With a 7-4 victory on Sunday, they did just that, taking two of three games to gain a game in the American League West standings.

Angels starter Dan Haren made his return to the rotation and put in one of his best efforts of the season. Luckily, the offense more than made his strong outing hold up.

Mike Trout tripled to lead off the bottom of the first and came in to score on a ground-rule double from Albert Pujols. The Halos added two more runs in the bottom of the second on a passed ball and an RBI single from Bobby Wilson, putting Los Angeles ahead 3-0 before the Rangers had even gotten a hit.

Nelson Cruz homered off of Haren in the top of the fourth to get the Rangers on the board and cut the Angels lead to 3-2. Luckily, the Angels had one more big inning in them. Wilson homered to lead off the bottom of the seventh, knocking Matt Harrison out of the game. Then Pujols belted his 18th home run of the season to make it 6-2 Angels.

Michael Young gave the Rangers another run with an RBI single in the top of the eighth, but the Halos got that run back in the bottom of the frame thanks to an RBI single from Torii Hunter.

Ernesto Frieri loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and the Rangers were able to get one more run on an Elvis Andrus sacrifice fly, but Frieri struck out Josh Hamilton -- the potential tying run -- to end the game.

Haren went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits and three walks. He improves to 7-8 on the season.

Angels Option Kole Calhoun To Triple A Salt Lake, Making Room For Dan Haren

After their 9-2 loss on Saturday to the Texas Rangers, the Los Angeles Angels optioned outfielder Kole Calhoun to Triple A Salt Lake. The roster move makes room for starting pitcher Dan Haren, who is scheduled to return from the disabled list to start Sunday night in the series finale against the division rivals.

Calhoun, the Angels' eighth round draft pick in 2010, was 3-for-15 with a pair of walks in two stints with the Angels this season. He was recalled from Triple A on July 15 when the Halos placed relief pitcher Jordan Walden on the disabled list with a strained right biceps.

Haren was placed on the disabled list on July 5 with lower back tightness, which the right-hander said contributed to his poor season to date. Haren is 6-8 with a 4.86 ERA in 17 starts this season. He allowed two runs in five innings on Monday in a rehab start with Class A Inland Empire.

Angels Vs. Rangers Final Score: Ervin Santana Falls Apart In 9-2 Loss

The Los Angeles Angels were hoping to pick up a quick series win over the first-place Texas Rangers after taking the first game of the three-game series. Unfortunately, the formidable offense of the Rangers made itself known on Saturday en route to a 9-2 drubbing of the Halos.

Michael Young got the Rangers on top early with a two-out RBI single in the top of the first inning. The second inning proved to be the back-breaker, as Angels starter Ervin Santana let things get out of hand in a hurry. The Rangers plated five runs in the second inning and Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba opened the frame with back-to-back homers to quickly make it 3-0 Texas. Ian Kinsler added an RBI double and Adrian Beltre followed up with his 18th home run of the year, putting the Rangers on top 6-0 and knocking Santana out of the game.

Napoli hit his second home run of the game in the top of the third to make it 7-0 before the Angels finally got on the board in the bottom of the third. Mike Trout -- naturally -- came through with an RBI single to make it 7-1 before Torii Hunter struck out and Albert Pujols lined into a double play to end the inning.

Hunter got the Angels a run closer with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, but Ian Kinsler belted another two-run homer in the eighth to officially put the game out of reach.

Santana fell to 4-10 after giving up six runs on eight hits in just 1.2 innings, moving his ERA back up to 6.00. Yu Darvish improved to 11-6 as he held the Angels to two runs on three hits and four walks, while striking out 11.

The Angels will hope to win the rubber game on Sunday behind the returning Dan Haren. It won't be easy, as they'll have to deal with All-Star pitcher Matt Harrison, who has been Texas' best starter this year.

Dan Haren Injury Update: Angels Pitcher Set To Start On Sunday

Dan Haren went on the disabled list two weeks ago after revealing that he had been pitching through a stiff back for most of the season. The Los Angeles Angels right-hander has completed his rest and rehab and will return to the rotation just in time.

According to Landon Hall of the Orange County Register, Haren is expected to be activated in time to start Sunday's series finale against the first-place Texas Rangers. If Haren is indeed at full strength, this is a big blessing for the Angels, as they are attempting to gain more ground on the Rangers while they are hosting their American League West division rivals.

Angels Vs. Rangers Final Score: Halos Coast To 6-1 Win Behind Jered Weaver

Heading into their three-game series against the Texas Rangers, the Los Angeles Angels knew that Friday's opener would be their best chance to pick up a win. Behind their ace, Jered Weaver, the Angels did just that, picking up an easy 6-1 victory to gain a game on the first-place Rangers.

The Rangers struck first, as Elvis Andrus hit a solo home run in the first inning to give Texas a 1-0 lead. The Angels would tie things up in the bottom of the inning, thanks to an RBI double from Howie Kendrick.

The Angels would score three runs in the bottom of the fourth, on an RBI groundout from Kendrick and a two-run double from Erick Aybar to put the Halos on top, 4-1.

Mark Trumbo launched his 27th home run of the season in the sixth inning and Mike Trout belted his 15th homer in the seventh for two big insurance runs. The bullpen would hold things down for the huge win to light up the halo.

Weaver ended up going seven innings and allowing just the one run on six hits and a walk, while striking out four. Albert Pujols was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double.
