Mike Trout, Erick Aybar Pace Angels In Interleague Play

The Los Angeles Angels drew an Angel Stadium record 133,035 fans to watch them take two of three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend in Anaheim, continuing their stellar work in interleague play. They have beaten the Dodgers in six straight series over the last three years and since 2007 lead MLB with a 74-34 mark (.685) in interleague play.

The Angels were 12-6 this year against the National League, the third best record in interleague play, and were lead by Mike Trout and Erick Aybar this season.

Trout led all of baseball with 30 hits in interleague play, hitting .395/.471/.592 with 21 runs scored and 15 stolen bases in 18 games. Aybar was second with 29 hits, hitting .414/.446/.629 with eight doubles, two triples, and a home run in 18 games. Only Carlos Beltran (.421) had a better interleague batting average than Aybar.

Not to be outdone, Mark Trumbo had 20 RBI in interleague play to lead baseball, with five home runs and a .521 slugging percentage despite hitting just .239.

Across all of baseball, average attendance at interleague games this season was 34,693, the third base mark of all-time, trailing only 2008 and 2007. Overall, MLB attendance is up 8.1% this season through the same number of dates last year.
