Angels Call Up Kole Calhoun, Bobby Cassevah

The Los Angeles Angels have made a crucial move to ensure the

Bill Plunkett of OCRegister has more on why the Angels made these moves.

Calhoun tore up the Class-A California League last season (.324, 22 home runs and 99 RBI) then skipped Double-A entirely after an impressive spring training with the Angels during which he hit .354 with eight extra-base hits (seven doubles and a triple) in 23 preseason games.

An eighth-round pick out of Arizona State in 2010, Calhoun is not on the 40-man roster and the Angels will need to make a move to free up a spot for him.

After that performance in spring training, this is what Angels GM Jerry Dipoto had to say about Calhoun:

"Loved him. Very well-rounded."

With Ryan Langerhans and Vernon Wells headed to the DL, it was clear the Angels needed to get more players from their farm system, and they have a special one in Calhoun. Calhoun won the Fred Haney Award this spring, given annually to the top Angels rookie in spring training. He was in Class A last year but managed to skip Double A entirely.

This probably means more OF playing time for Peter Bourjos, which they should have done anyway.

Cassevah has been up and down with the Angels for a while, but hasn't been anything special.

Wells and Langerhans are out, and Torii Hunter is still on the restricted list. The Angels will have to make do with the players they have.
