Angels Vs. Padres Final Score: Halos Open Interleague Play With 7-2 Win

The Los Angeles Angels kicked off their first interleague series of the season on Friday night, as they visited the San Diego Padres. Petco Park ended up being kind to the Angels, who came away with the 7-2 victory.

The Angels managed to drive in a run on a double-play groundout in the top of the second inning to open the scoring. The Halos put together a big inning in the fifth, when Mike Trout hit a triple to drive in starting pitcher Jered Weaver. Albert Pujols walked and Mark Trumbo hit his 10th double of the year to plate Trout. Vernon Wells hit what looked to be an inning-ending double play that the Padres were unable to turn and Pujols came home to make it 4-0 Angels.

The Padres finally managed to get on the get on the board with a Will Venable solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. San Diego scored again in the seventh as they looked to have a rally going against Weaver but settled for one run on an RBI force out to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Halos would get some insurance runs in the top of the ninth, with RBI hits from Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar to make it 7-2 Angels.

Weaver was once again outstanding, holding the Padres to two runs on three hits and three walks in seven innings of work. Scott Downs and Ernesto Frieri each pitched hitless innings to seal the win.
