The Los Angeles Angels opened their three-game series against the New York Yankees on Friday afternoon. In the first game, they were shut out for the loss.

The Los Angeles Angels headed to the Big Apple on Friday afternoon to take on the New York Yankees in the first game of a three-game series. The Halos ended up getting blanked by a Yankees team at full force and suffered the 5-0 loss.

Los Angeles looked punchless on offense throughout the game, mustering just five hits. The Yankees struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a bases-clearing three-run double by Nick Swisher. Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson added solo home runs in the third and fifth innings, respectively. The Rodriguez home run was the 630th of his career, tying him for fifth on the all-time home run list with Ken Griffey Jr.

Ervin Santana went six innings, giving up all five runs on six hits and three walks. Hiroki Kuroda had a much stronger start for the Yankees, going eight innings and allowing just five hits and two walks. He combined with David Robertson for the shutout.

Albert Pujols was 1-for-4 in the game with a strikeout and grounded into a double-play with a man on in the top of the ninth inning. Erick Aybar had two hits, making him the only Angels player to reach base more than once in the game.
