Bobby Abreu Trade Rumors: Deal With Indians Falls Through, DH Staying In L.A. For Time Being

One of the first bits of information coming out of the 2012 Los Angeles Angels Spring Training camp was designated hitter Bobby Abreu demanding either more playing time or a trade to a different team. Manage Mike Scioscia did his best to smooth over the hard feelings and the two sides acted amicably enough for the past couple weeks.

On Thursday, reports came out indicating that the Angels were on the verge of a trade that would send Abreu to the Cleveland Indians. By Friday, it appeared as though any potential deal the two sides were planning has fallen through, meaning Abreu will remain in Southern California for the time being.

Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times reports that the deal fell apart when the two sides couldn't agree on money.

The deal between the Angels and Indians "fell apart" over how much of Abreu's $9-million salary the Indians were willing to assume, according to a source familiar with the talks but not allowed to speak publicly about them.

The hope for the team and for Abreu is that if one team is interested, others may also have use for the slugger. Perhaps before too long, a deal will present itself that will be beneficial to all parties.
