The Halos added some much-needed infield depth with the move.

The Los Angeles Angels signed veteran infielder Luis Rodriguez to a minor-league contract that includes an invite to spring training, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reported on Monday.

The 32-year-old hit .238 with a .314 on-base percentage and added a .324 slugging percentage in 407 minor-league games between 2005 and 2011. The switch-hitting Venezuelan native, who is listed at 5'9, was with the Seattle Mariners' organization in 2012, where he played for the Triple-A affiliate Tacoma Rainiers. While playing in the Pacific Northwest, he hit .296 with a .389 on-base percentage, adding 12 home runs and 51 RBIs in 102 games.

Rodriguez is expected to compete with fellow infielders Andrew Romine and Brendan Harris for the spot that was vacated by Maicer Izturis as a utility infielder off the bench. The move by the Angels helps fill the void left from Angel Sanchez, whom the White Sox claimed in the Rule 5 Draft.
