Angels reportedly hire Carlos Gomez to run international scouting

The Halos hired the former D-backs executive as the team's first major front-office addition under GM Jerry Dipoto.

The Los Angeles Angels have hired the Arizona Diamondbacks' former international scouting director, Carlos Gomez, to take on the same position with the Halos, according to a report from Baseball America.

Gomez spent the last two seasons as the director of international scouting after joining the club as a pro scout following the 2007 season. He worked with Jerry Dipoto when the Angels' GM was the vice president of scouting and player development for Arizona. Gomez is Dipoto's first major hire on the international side of the operation since coming on as general manager of the Halos in 2011.

Among Gomez's accomplishments with his former club is the fact that the D-backs ranked just 28th in international spending estimates in 2011, but still managed to acquire a wealth of promising talent from outside the United States. The Angels will look to retool their pitching staff after a disappointing season and could use some work in the same department.
