The Los Angeles Angels claimed former Seattle Mariner outfielder Scott Cousins off waivers on Friday. Cousins is expected to compete for the fifth outfield spot for Mike Scioscia's club.
Last season, the 27-year-old Cousins played in 61 games for the Miami Marlins' Triple-A franchise, hitting .296 with seven homers and 36 runs batted in. He bounced from the Marlins to the Toronto Blue Jays to Mariners on the waiver wire in October and early November, before ending up on the Angels as of Friday. Cousins might be best known as the player who knocked Buster Posey out for a season in a violent home-plate collision.
The Angels' 40-man roster now stands at 37 players.
