Chris Iannetta and the Los Angeles Angels agreed to a three-year contract on Friday that will keep the Angels catcher in Southern California through 2015
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and veteran catcher Chris Iannetta agreed on Friday to a three-year, $15.5 million contract extension that could be worth as much as $17.5 million with incentives, according to the Associated Press.
The new deal will pay him $5.05 million in salary for 2013 and will include salaries of $4,975,000 for 2014 and $5,525,000 for 2015. The contract has up to $500,000 in bonuses built in for the 2013 season based on starts at catcher, including $100,000 each for 100, 110, 115, 120 and 125 starts. In 2014 and 2015, there is $725,000 available for the same incentives.
Iannetta hit .240 with nine home runs and 26 RBI in 79 games for the Halos in 2012 and provided some continuity at a position that saw three catchers behind the dish in a by-committee approach in 2011. He suffered a broken wrist on May 2 at Minnesota, but managed to stay in the game to finish catching Jered Weaver's no-hitter.
