As Arizona Fall League play continued on Monday night, Los Angeles Angels' prospect Carlos Ramirez had the lone RBI for the Scottsdale Scorpions as they fell to the Phoenix Desert Dogs 5-1.
The catcher collected his second RBI of the season on a groundout in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Scorpions their only run of the evening off pitcher Johnny Hellweg. Scottsdale was 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight runners.
Fellow Halos' prospect Ranal Grichuk was 1-for-3 with a single, adding a walk and a strikeout. Center fielder Travis Witherspoon was 0-for-4 and struck out twice, but collected a stolen base. Angels prospects were a combined 1-for-11.
The Angels will need to get contributions from their farm system after a disappointing 2012 season that saw them miss the playoffs by a narrow margin. Part of the reason was due to a lackluster start and lack of offensive production. 2012 Rookie of the Year Mike Trout was a major part of that success and figures to be a team leader moving forward, and the team hopes there are some talented players behind him.
