Angels Vs. Blue Jays: Angels Fall On Walk Off To Edwin Encarnacion, 4-3, Drop Three Of Four To Blue Jays

A loss to Oakland by the Texas Rangers earlier today had the Los Angeles Angels set to make-up ground as they were five games behind the Rangers for first place in the AL West.

But a walk-off home run in the 12th inning by Toronto Blue Jays’ Edwin Encarnacion not only prevented that from happening, but drastically lowered the Angels’ chances to reach the Rangers with only six games remaining.

The Angels jumped ahead in the 2nd inning when Alberto Callaspo homered to right in the 2nd inning to open the scoreboard. Blue Jays countered in the 5th inning when Jose Bautista singled to center to score Eric Thames in.

Angels would respond, however, with two runs in the 6th, one on a triple by Howie Kendrick to score Erik Aybar, and another by a ground out that scored Kendrick by Torii Hunter.

Ervin Santana started for the Angels and was reasonably effective for the Halos as he pitched for six innings allowing two earned runs on six hits. He had five strike outs but also allowed five walks and a home run to Eric Thames in the bottom of the 7th.

Bobby Cassevah relieved Santana in the 7th and walked Bautista. Bautista was scored in on a wild pitch from Cassevah, which tied the score at 3-3.

Garrett Richards, who was brought in in 11th inning, continued to pitch in the 12th and allowed the walk off home run to the first batter, Encarnacion.

The Angels head back west to finish their last six games starting a three-game series with the Oakland A’s and the Texas Rangers.
