The Minnesota Twins banged out 16 hits Friday night in their 13-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in the opening game of a three-game weekend series in Anaheim. Coupled with the Texas Rangers winning 10-0 against the Boston Red Sox, the Angels fell to four and a half games out of first place in the American League West.
Tyler Chatwood was recalled Friday night to start in place of Jered Weaver, who attended his grandfather's funeral. However, Chatwood was pulled in the fourth inning after allowing six runs on five hits and five walks, with just three strikeouts. In his last five starts, Chatwood is 0-4 and has allowed 24 runs in 22 2/3 innings. On the season he has nearly as many walks (68) as strikeouts (71).
Trevor Plouffe homered, doubled, and scored three runs for the Twins, while Jason Kubel and Danny Valencia each hit three hits, including a double. The Angels are now 4-3 against the Twins this season.
Weaver starts Saturday night in the second game of the series, facing Brian Duensing for Minnesota.
