The Angels are three games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League with 14 games left in the season.
The Los Angeles Angels end their series in Oakland with a Wednesday afternoon affair with the Athletics. Jered Weaver starts for the Angels on getaway day, and there is a decent chance he may start again on three days rest this Sunday in Baltimore. Moving Weaver up once puts him in line to start the final game of the season in Anaheim against the Texas Rangers.
The Angels hope that final game, on September 28 is a meaningful one. The Halos begin play on Wednesday down three games to the Rangers in the American League West, with just 14 games left to play.
Weaver is one of four pitchers in the top six in MLB in ERA taking the mound on Wednesday. Weaver, in sixth place at 2.4355, is narrowly behind Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, who are tied for fourth at 2.4351. Halladay pitches for the Phillies on Wednesday against the Houston Astros. Clayton Kershaw and Johnny Cueto, who are the top two in the majors in ERA, start on Wednesday as well.
Rich Harden gets the start for the A's. He is 4-2 with a 4.68 ERA in 12 starts for Oakland this season.
